Why Is There a $1 Charge From WinRed on My Bank Statement?

Learn about Temporary Authorization Holds on WinRed

Updated over 5 months ago

If you have recently donated to an organization using WinRed, you may see a temporary charge of $1 appear on your online statement. While this may appear to be an additional charge, it’s actually an 'authorization hold' (sometimes referred to as a preauthorization).

An authorization hold functions as a source of verification that your account has the requisite funds to fulfill the payment and is a common bank practice when handling credit card transactions.

This Authorization is Temporary

These authorizations are designed to "fall off" of your statement anywhere from 1-30 days after the charge is initiated, depending on your bank's policy. This means that while the hold appears on your online statement, it will not actually withdraw $1.00 from your account.

If you have questions or are unsure about any of these steps, please reach out to our support team by clicking the red chat box at the bottom right corner of your screen.

You can also email us at donations@winred.com for assistance.
