How to enable PAC and Business Contributions

Updated over a week ago

You now have the ability to enable different Contributor Types for your Donation Pages! This means that in addition to Personal Donations, you can decide if your organization would like to accept donations from PACs and/or Businesses as well.

If you would like to use this feature, please reach out to our team at support@winred.com

IMPORTANT: While this functionality now exists, it is important to note that you should consult with your legal and/or compliance team(s) before enabling for your organization.

If Yes is selected, then your organization will be able to accept PAC Donations. If this is enabled, you'll be able to specify on a page by page basis if you will accept these types of donations. This does not automatically enable it across all pages.

How to Enable Business Contributions

Based on your state and/or Federal laws, located in the same place as PAC Contributions, you may see the option to accept Business Donations:

Like PAC Donations, if Yes is selected, then your organization will be able to accept Business Donations. If this is enabled, you'll be able to specify on a page by page basis if you will accept these types of donations. This does not automatically enable it across all pages.

If your organization elects to accept Business Donations, you can also decide if you'd like for all new pages you create to be defaulted to receive Business Donations. Even in enabled by default, this functionality can be turned off on a page by page basis.

Prior to saving your updated settings to accept Business and/or PAC Donations, you will be required to acknowledge that it has been confirmed that your organization can legally accept Business and/or PAC Donations. Once checked, your settings can be saved.

How to Enable on Donation Pages

If Business and/or PAC Donations are accepted by your organization then you will need to enable that functionality on a page by page basis. To do this, begin creating a new page or click into an existing page and go to the Form Fields tab. You'll see a section called Contributor Types:

Each page will default to the Personal Donations toggle being selected which can be toggled off if the you wish to utilize the page for only Business and/or PAC Donations. These toggles allow you to build specific pages to suit the exact needs of your target audience.

Donation Landing Page

If you toggle on more than one Contributor Type, then your donation page will have a slider on it so that Donors can designate their Contributor Type:

Please Note: If only one Contributor Type is selected, the slider will not appear.

How to Enable on Storefronts

To enable Business and/or PAC Donations on your Storefront, click into your Merchandise tab, and then into the General Settings tab. You'll see the following toggles, and from there, you will be able to decide which contribution types you'd like to allow:

These options will only appear if the Business and/or PAC Contributor Type is enabled in the main organization settings. Additionally it should be noted that if enabled, the above toggles will apply to all storefront donations in the checkout.

Maximum Donation Amounts

Each Contributor Type is assigned its own Maximum Donation Amount. To set these, go to your Settings and Pages tab. When these are set, it will allow you to add Donation Amount Buttons on the Page Builder up to the Maximum Donation Amount allowed for the selected Contributor Types on the page. On the Pages tab, you will see the following maximum donation limits:

Maximum Personal Donation: This is required for all organizations regardless of if Business and/or PAC is enabled.

Image

Maximum Business Donation: This is required if your organization is going to accept Business Donations.

Image

Maximum PAC Donation: This is required if your organization will accept PAC Donations.

NOTE: The above amounts are shown for display only. These amounts vary depending on your state and/or type of organization.

Optional Fields

When a Donor decides to make a Business and/or PAC Donation, there are a few fields that you can require of them based on their selection and the requirements of compliance reporting for your state or organization. While they are listed as "Optional Fields" in the platform, if checked they will actually be required of your Donors. To set these, go to the Pages tab in Settings. Once you select Yes for the given Contributor Type, you will see the option to add the below fields:

PAC Donation Optional fields:

  • Additional PAC Disclaimer: This field can be populated with any relevant copy that your organization wishes to present to a PAC donor on the landing page. The copy will appear under the Donation Amount Buttons and only be presented if the PAC Contributor Type is selected by the donor.

  • FEC Committee ID: A field for a PAC Donor to provide their FEC ID

Business Donation Optional fields:

  • Additional Business Disclaimer: This field can be populated with any relevant copy that your organization wishes to present to a Business donor on the landing page. The copy will appear under the Donation Amount Buttons and only be presented if the Business Contributor Type is selected by the donor.

  • Principal Type of Business: A Dropdown or Free-form Text Field that a Business Donor will be required to provide if enabled by the Org.

    • Instead of a free-form text field, a single-select dropdown of different Business classifications as defined by the IRS that a Business Donor may be enabled. Should the Donor not find their specific industry in the dropdown, they can select Other and then type their industry in the free form text box that appears.

  • Tax ID: A field for a business Donor to enter in their Tax ID

Donation Amount Buttons

The amounts that will be shown to each Donor on the landing page are managed on the Form Fields tab in the Donation Amount Buttons section. These directly correlate to Maximum Donation Amounts set in the Org Settings and the Contributor Types specified in the Page Builder.

Outlined below is an example of how the functionality works using the following Maximum Donation Amounts; Maximum Personal Donation = $5,000 | Maximum Business Donation = $10,000 | Maximum PAC Donation = $20,000 > each defined in Org Settings

For pages that only accept Personal Donations: The maximum amount for buttons that can be added in the Page Builder is $5,000. The Donor will not be shown the Contributor Type slider and will only see donation amount buttons up to $5,000.

For pages set to accept Personal and Business Donations: The maximum amount for buttons that can be added in the Page Builder is $10,000. If the Donor selects that he/she is making a Personal Donation they will only see donation amount buttons up to $5,000. If the Donor selects that he/she is making a Business Donation, they will see all donation buttons up to $10,000.

For pages set to accept Personal, Business, and PAC Donations: The maximum for amount buttons that can be added in the Page Builder is $20,000. If the Donor selects that he/she is making a Personal Donation they will only see donation amount buttons up to $5,000. If the Donor selects that he/she is making a Business Donation, they will see all donation buttons up to $10,000. If the Donor selects that he/she is making a PAC Donation, they will be shown all donation buttons up to $20,000.

Data Fields

All Business and PAC Donors are required to provide the same information that standard Personal Donors provide, such as: First Name, Last Name, Email, and Address.

The majority of these fields will be renamed to match the Contributor Type. For instance, with PAC Donations a number of the fields are prepended with "PAC" or "PAC Representative" then "Business" or "Business Contact" for Business Donations.

Query Parameters

A Query Parameter has beed added to the landing page URL to define the Donor's Contributor Type.

If the page is set up to receive only Business or PAC Donations in the Page Builder, the URL will pre-populate with that Contributor Type specified; contributor_type=business or contributor_type=pac

If the page is set up to accept Personal and Business and/or PAC Donations, the URL will not pre-populate with the Query Parameter upon load. If the Donor selects any Contributor Type other than Personal, the URL will update with the Contributor Type specified.

Donation Notifications

You can designate Email Notifications via Contributor Type. Adding this filter to Notification a will allow you to receive an email each time you receive a donation from a particular type of donor.

Emails

Receipt emails that are sent to the donor will now include the following information: Contributor Type, Business Name, Type of Business, Business Tax ID, PAC Name, & PAC FEC Committee ID data, based on the Contributor Type of PAC or Business.

Additionally, when you receive your Payout Report in your email inbox it will include information regarding Contributor Type (when used) as well as any other filters that may be set.

Receipts

For Business and PAC donations, the receipt will include the appropriate data of the following: Contributor Type, Business Name, Type of Business, Business Tax ID, PAC Name, & PAC FEC Committee ID.

Occupation & Employer will only show for Personal donations.

Webhooks

The following values have been added to the webhook builder: Contributor Type, Business Name, Type of Business, Business Tax ID, PAC Name, and PAC FEC Committee ID.

As part of this feature, the native [First Name], [Last Name], [Email], and [Address] fields have been prepended with "Business" (Address), "Business Contact" (First Name, Last Name, Email), "PAC" (Address), or "PAC Representative" (First Name, Last Name, Email) based on the donor's Contributor Type. When you are building a webhook, it is important to note that these fields will not be prepended in the field dropdown selector.

If you wish to create a webhook for all Business donations, and bring in all Business donor fields, you would need to include: Contributor Type, Business Name, Type of Business, Business Tax ID, First Name, Last Name, Address, Zip, City, & State.

If you want to create a webhook for all PAC donations, and bring in all PAC donor fields, you would need to include: Contributor Type, PAC Name, FEC Committee ID, First Name, Last Name, Address, Zip, City, & State.

Important Notes

  • All new donations are recorded in WinRed and assigned a Contributor Type. The default Contributor Type is Personal (unless set otherwise and explicitly set to Business or PAC by the donor), even if the feature flag is off.

  • The Recurring Donation button, Money Pledges, and/or Upsells, if enabled on a page, will only be presented to donors who are making Personal contributions.

  • Following submission of a donation on the Landing Page as a Business or PAC, the Donor will be directed to the Confirmation Page and will never be shown an upsell or upsell flow (even if one exists on the page).

  • ApplePay will only show to the donor if the Personal toggle is the ONLY toggle selected for the given page. If the Personal toggle AND Business and/or PAC are also selected, ApplePay will not be an option for the donor.
