Automatically Block Donors

How to add emails to your blocked donor list

Updated over 5 months ago

Conduit and Merchant accounts are able to block donors from donating to their committee via the amount given or the donor's email address. You can block donors for a certain amount of time, meaning that during the time you've set, they will be unable to donate via any of your donation pages.

What Does Blocking Do

Blocking on WinRed allows you to block specific individuals from giving to your organization. This is helpful if a donor has given over a contribution limit and your campaign cannot accept it.

You can block a donor by their specific email address or the amount given.

Multiple Candidates on the Page

Suppose there are multiple candidates on the landing page, and a donor is blocked from one of them. In that case, the donor will be asked to change their donation to $0 to the blocked organization -- only then will they be able to complete their donation to the other organizations:

How to Block

Click on the Accounting tab and then on the Blocked Donors tab. You will see this menu.

Manual Block

To manually add one or more email addresses, click on the green Create Manual Block button on the Blocked Donors tab. Once you click it, you'll be able to enter one or more email addresses (please use a comma to separate email addresses if adding multiple).

You are required to enter an Expiration Date when the donor(s) will be able to donate again.

You can also add a Note about why the donor is blocked for your records. Though not required, it is suggested for future reference.

Once done, click Save!

It will take a few minutes for the email addresses to be added to your Blocked Donor list-- during this time, any Money Pledges and Subscriptions will be canceled. Once complete, the blocked emails will be shown on the Blocked Donors tab.

When a donor's email address is added to the blocked donor's list, WinRed will block the donor from giving to the organization. This block is based on the organization being a recipient, meaning they will not be able to donate on landing pages or pages the organization is connected to, and all Money Pledges/Subscriptions are canceled.

The donor will not receive a notification that they have been blocked. When they go to donate, they will be shown the following message:

Auto Block

To automatically block donors once they contribute a maximum amount for the set date range, click the blue Setup Auto Block button on the Blocked Donors tab.

Once selected, the following menu will appear.

Here, you must enter the specific date range of this auto block and the maximum amount donors can give before they are blocked. The autoblock will then end on the End Date listed here.

Once active, when a donor gives over the specific amount, WinRed will add them to the block list later that night. This block does not happen in real-time and will occur each night at 12:30 am EST.

Once the information has been added, please scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the green Start Auto Block button to begin it.

How Auto Block Works

The graphic below shows how the auto block works.

Suppose a donor gets blocked for going over the maximum amount. In that case, their credit card and any associated email addresses that used the same card to donate will be blocked from making future donations. Any past credit cards that were used by the associated email to donate will be blocked.

How to Unblock a Donor

If you want to unblock a donor, head to the Blocked Donors tab and click on the specific blocked donor. You will then see a red unblock button in the right-hand corner. Clicking this button will unblock the donor and allow them to donate again.
