Use Merge Parameters To Personalize Your WinRed Pages and Upsells

Personalize the text your donors see on your WinRed pages and upsells

Updated over a week ago

WinRed has a series of helpful URL parameters that you can use to customize your pages and upsells. Below is a guide to each type and how to use them.

Merge Parameters

Merge parameters allow you to insert data from your subscriber list directly into WinRed to create personalized content for donors viewing a page or an upsell. These parameters can also be used on the following eight features.

  • Donation Stream

  • Exit Intent

  • Custom Fields

  • Recurring Callout

  • Money Pledge Callout

  • Donation Buttons

  • Upsells

  • Password Callout

Add this merge parameter to your Call to Action to set up the first name merge parameter on pages, see below:

{{firstname}}, stand with us this month!

You can also add a default value in case a donor views the page that does not have a first name value in your ESP. In the example below, "Friend" is the default value.

{{firstname default= "friend"}}, stand with us this month!

Use on Pages

Add the merge parameter to the Call to Action within the page builder.

Please remember that the merge parameter (in this case, firstname) needs to be URL safe. This means no spaces or punctuation marks if you would like to add a space, separate it by a dash or an underscore.

Next, in the URL of your page, add the merge parameter from your merge parameter and set it equal to the variable from your ESP, like this:
โ€‹
โ€‹https://secure.winred.com/team/example?first-name=%%name%%

When a donor whose first name is known to your ESP or system of choice views your page, they will see their name displayed on the WinRed page.

The first name merge parameter is shown in the example below.

Use on Upsells

Add the merge parameter to the Call to Action on an upsell. The following parameters are available to use on upsells.

  • -first_name-

  • -last_name-

  • -city-

  • -state-

  • -zip-

This example uses a merge parameter for the first name and state. This will pull in the name from the landing page, so there is no need to worry about adding any additional URL parameter here.

Then, they will display like this on an upsell.
