Upsell Pathways

Dynamically direct donors to specific upsells based on criteria specific to that donor

Updated over a week ago

WinRed’s Upsell Pathways feature allows an organization to dynamically redirect donors from a donation page to an upsell based on donor attributes.

For example, if a donor lives in a specific state, you can upsell to candidates in that state. This is a massive boost for raising more from upsells, as you can connect donors with other candidates who are more relevant to them.

This powerful tool is designed to boost the effectiveness of your upsells by providing donors with a personalized experience.

Create a Donation Page

To add a Pathway to a page, you must first create a Donation Page or have an existing one.

Once the Donation Page is created, head to the page builder and navigate to the Upsells tab. You can create or add an existing pathway to the page.

Create an Upsell Pathway

Upsell Pathways creates custom experiences based on the user's giving history or how they fill out a donation page.

Click on the Pages tab and select the Upsells subtab to start. You can view and manage your current pathways and steps here.

Create a new pathway by selecting the green Create Upsells Pathways button.

Give the pathway an internal name; this won't be publicly viewable and will only be seen on WinRed.

Create a condition and then add an upsell to the pathway.

If a condition or upsell is accidentally added, the last added action can be removed by selecting the red Undo button found in the top right-hand corner.

Note: This feature does not introduce new functionality or changes to the Upsells feature. You can still create and edit the same Upsells to an Upsell Pathway or create a new Upsell via the Upsell Pathways builder.

Create or Add a Condition

Conditions are the requirements that donors must meet to see the specific upsell. You can add as many requirements as you like here.

To create a new condition or add an existing one, select the grey plus button.

When creating a new condition, give it a name and input the requirement that the donor must meet to see the upsell after it.

Random Split - Send X% of Visits Down the True Path

Any custom fields on the account can also be used as a field.

Select an available predicate from the menu and input a value. The predicate and value options vary depending on the attribute.

Every condition will have two paths associated with it, a true and false path.

After the requirements have been added, click on the green save button at the bottom.

Create a True Path

If the donor meets all of the requirements defined in the condition, they will follow the True path. If there are multiple requirements, all must be met for the Donor to follow the True path.

This true path will be another place where an upsell or condition can be added.

Create a False Path

If the donor does not meet all of the requirements defined above, they will follow the False path.

The false path is where you can customize the upsells for donors who do not meet the conditions set.

Edit or Remove a Condition

To edit or remove a condition in a pathway, select the ellipse next to it and click the button for the action you want to take.

To edit the condition, select the ellipse and click on the View Detail button. The settings will then appear. Make the desired changes and then click on the green save button.

Any changes made to the condition will be applied to each instance of it, across all Upsell Pathways and Pages where it is used.

To remove a condition, select Remove, and the following options will appear. The condition can either be removed from the True, False, or both columns.

Select which action you would like to take and hit the Remove Condition button.

Create or Add an Existing Upsell

Now that you’ve set the requirements donors should meet that will send the donors down a true or false path, decide which upsell donors will see.

You can do this by clicking on the grey plus button. Depending on the action you would like to take, select the create upsell or add an existing upsell button.

At least one upsell will need to be added to a pathway in order to save it.

Edit or Remove an Upsell

To edit or remove an upsell in a pathway, select the ellipse next to it and click the button for the action you want to take.

To edit the upsell, select View Details, and then the upsell settings will appear. Here, make the desired changes to the upsells and then click on the green save button.

Select the Remove button to remove the upsell from the pathway. This button will only remove the upsell from the pathway and will not archive it.

Create a Stop

Add or create a panel upsell to capture all traffic that does not meet the requirement of other conditions in the pathway!

If a panel upsell is added, a red line will appear, signifying the end of the pathway. The donor will not see anything after it.

If a donor reaches the end of the pathway and a panel upsell is not added, they will then see the landing page's confirmation page instead.

Test Upsells in a Pathway

When you redirect traffic to multiple upsells, there are multiple ways to test this.

After a condition is created, input the same upsell both in the true and false branches to see which one is performing better.

You can also use the random split field on a condition and input the amount of traffic that should be split. This will allow you to test multiple upsells against each other and see which raises more revenue.

View or Edit an Upsell Pathway

Here, you can view the pathways on your account and their information, such as the date created, name, who it was created by, number of upsells, and attached pages.

The ellipses found on the right-hand side of the screen allow you to view, duplicate, or archive the pathway.

If the View Details button is selected, you will be able to view the pathway and its actions.

The buttons on the left side of the screen allow you to zoom in and out and view the whole layout of the pathway.

If zoomed in, you can see the information associated with the specific condition or step, such as the number of views, number of times accepted, and conversion rate.
